Realzyme was recently contacted to assist with a difficult cleaning application of treated sewage in membrane filtration units. They were seeing a 50% drop in flow rates over a short period of time and considered these to be irreversibly fouled which required replacing them. As part of their evaluation, a fouled membrane was sent back to the manufacturer and tested with our Powerzym M enzymatic-based detergent . After (1) cleaning cycle (we advised that up to (3) could be necessary when fouled as heavily as they described), they observed a substantial flow recovery and suggested further test in the field, which also worked “very well”. Currently, the user moved to full-scale usage with a weekly cleaning regimen.
